I love Autumn Sweater - it’s one of the first songs Andrew ever played me that I actually liked, and be said it reminds him of me because I always wear nice jumpers.

That’s cute… and I like the lyrics of Autumn Sweater but I think the music is dull.

Also wondering how the word ‘autumn’ sits with Americans in this song. It’s such a classic biscuit/cookie division of language. Does it sound pretentious? Poetic?

Interesting question about 'autumn'. I think it might be regional, but here in New England (and presumably, New Jersey), 'autumn' and 'fall' are mostly interchangeable, but 'autumn' is slightly more poetic. Certainly not pretentious, but perhaps so in other parts of the U.S.

I was thinking about how 'sweater' feels outside of the U.S. No doubt the lyric would fail completely if the song was Fall Jumper.

Hmm, yes. Autumn jumper doesn’t sit well. Plus that ‘ump’ sound in the middle of a word would be useless to stress at the end of a line.

I never say sweater but I don’t think of it as American like fall/cookie/gotten. Plenty of people say it. The girls call all their top layer clothes jumpers even when they’re actually sweatshirts or hoodies.
